Using
an Arduino Mega2560 with an attached ethernet shield and a Nextion Touch Screen
display you can connect to your ethernet and control your Blackmagic StartView
4k, SmartScope Duo 4k, SmartView Duo, VideoHub 12x12, VideoHub 20x20, VideoHub
40x40, Universal VideoHub, MultiView, Hyperdeck Studio Mini, Hyperdeck Studio
HD Pro, Hyperdeck Studio 4k Pro and many
other Blackmagic devices. All this control using a single device.
Many
Blackmagic devices don’t come with front panel controls and require a computer
running a software control app or, a dedicated smartphone, which in many cases
is not practicable when on location
doing a multicam event. Especially now when there are
so many apps broadcasters can use to perform their duties.
All
that is required is an Arduino Mega2560, an ethernet shield, a Nextion
NX3224T024 2.4” touchscreen display, a 4Gb microSD card, a suitable enclosure,
2 dual pin adaptors and software. No soldering. The software is supplied via
email and includes the main Arduino firmware and the Nextion screen TFT file.
The TFT file is transferred onto the microSD card and then inserted into the
side of the Nextion. After the Nextion is updated the microSD card is used in
the Arduino Mega2560 to allow for the massive data files downloaded from the
Blackmagic devices. The Arduino firmware is sent to the Arduino Mega2560 using
a freeware terminal program such as Putty and all subsequent updates are
provided in the same manner.
When you purchase a software license you will receive an
email containing the Arduino firmware and the Nextion TFT file. You will also
receive links to the build instructions and training videos.
Future
updates will be provided by registered email notices. If the licensed software
is provided to anyone who bypassed the licensing process they will be denied
any software support and the license number they are using will be cancelled (no software support available to the
original user).

Note that this product is undergoing continual updates and refinements so for
such a low price, it is more advantageous to be legal from the start.

Serial T-Bar Controller on
the left and ethernet T-Bar Controller on the right
Both the T-Bar Serial Controller and
the T-Bar Ethernet Controller are
designed to work alongside an Elgato Stream Deck
to provide analog functionality, as
the Stream Deck is purely a button only
device.
The main difference between the T-Bar Serial
Controller and the T-Bar Ethernet Controller is the T-Bar Serial Controller
communicates with the ATEM using the RS422
serial port available on some
ATEM Production Switchers and the T-Bar
Ethernet
Controller communicates to the ATEM using the ethernet port available on ALL
ATEM Production Switchers.
The T-Bar
Ethernet Controller is ideal for use with the ATEM Mini as the Mini has a rather complete built in control panel
but no functional T-Bar.
The T-Bar Ethernet Controller has only the connector for the optional
LCD display. The T-Bar Serial Controller has a connector for the optional LCD
display and an RS422 port to communicate with the ATEM’s serial port using
the REMOTE port set to “External control set to GVG100.
The main advantage of the T-Bar Serial Controller is that it does
not use any of the limited number of ethernet ports on the ATEM.
Also, it is not affected by slow ethernet activity.
The rear of the T-Bar Serial Controller has a power
IN connector and a USB connector for running configurations and performing
software updates.
Both connectors can be used for powering the device.
The rear of the T-Bar ethernet Controller has a
power IN connector, a USB connector for running
configurations and performing software updates
and an ethernet connector for interfacing to an
existing network where the ATEM in connected..
All connectors can be used for powering the device
including optional POE.
Both the T-Bar Serial Controller and the
T-Bar Ethernet Controller have a T-bar
slider including a CUT button
and an AUTO button.
The CUT and AUTO buttons are provided to free up these functions when used in
conjunction with a STREAM DECK.
The T-Bar Ethernet Controller also has the
ability to re-map the CUT and AUTO buttons to perform any of the 100 Macro
functions
available on the ATEM.
As the T-Bar Ethernet Controller has a built
in ethernet module this can also come with an optional POE (power over
ethernet)
allowing operation with just a single cable.
There are 4 LEDs that are user controllable
for both HI level and LO level indicators.
The T-Bar has a LED at either end that vary in brightness depending on the
position of the T-Bar.

RS422/485 interface connector for PTZ
Controller
The Ethernet, USB and power connectors
The PTZ2ATEM
allows any 3rd party PTZ controller to send PTZ commands via RS485
to control ATEM PTZ functions. Currently, only specialized ATEM control panels
provide PTZ functionality, but this unit allows PTZ control for any ATEM.
The ATEM PTZ functions are available either via the RS422 connector on the rear
of most ATEM models or as embedded data in the camera return feed on the ATEM
program output. This allows all the PTZ commands to coexist alongside the CCU
controls and tally indicators for BMD cameras. The controls available are PAN,
TILT, ZOOM, FOCUS and IRIS.
Only a single PTZ2ATEM and PTZ controller unit are required to control ALL PTZ
cameras.
At the camera end you can use the ATEM2PTZ Controller (shown below) which takes
the ATEM camera return and generates Visca as RS422, or a Blackmagic Micro
Studio Camera which has built in Visca to RS422.
For the Visca commands you can use the PTZ(IF)
Interface (seen above) to control low cost PTZ heads.
You can use
any PTZ Controller that supports Pelco protocol on
RS485 connectivity (9 pin ‘D’ or screw terminal).
The
PTZ2ATEM has no knobs or buttons but has a status tri-coloured
LED to indicate ATEM connectivity and Joystick activity.
To adjust settings such as local IP address, the required ATEM IP
address, the PTZ protocol,
the controller baud rate, Aux buss control and LED
brightness, just connect a USB cable to the built in USB connector and run
a terminal program (@115200) on
either a Mac or PC. The USB can also be used for power (5v) and firmware updates.
There is also an external power connector for 7 to 12 volts.
The PTZ
Controller can select any camera available on the ATEM and the subsequent
adjustments are then made to that camera.
The PTZ2ATEM also has the ability to control the ATEM’s Aux busses when
selecting individual cameras.
There is also available the ability to adjust all controls using 2 separate
speed ranges.
This unit is also available as POE
(powers from the Ethernet port) when used in conjunction with a suitable
router.

ATEM2PTZ
allows ATEM PTZ commands over camera return to control Visca heads and discrete
PTZ heads (Bescor MP101).
This PTZ
head controller reads the PTZ data from the ATEM Camera return feed (from coax or fiber) and converts it to
either discrete pan and tilt commands and/or RS422
serial commands such as Pelco, Visca etc. It can also
provide LANC commands for zoom, iris and focus for compatible cameras.
This unit
is similar to the PTZ(IF) Interface as seen above, except this unit
derives the PTZ data from the embedded
ATEM CCU data, and the PTZ(IF) Interface derives the PTZ data from the BMD
Micro Studio Cameras PTZ connector (where the camera does the de-embedding).
The
embedded CCU/PTZ data is encoded into the ATEM Program OUT
feed by the ATEM, and the feed is used as the return feed to each
camera.
This return feed provides the following;
- A video program feed for return viewfinder
- All camera CCU controls as
set at the ATEM either by the ATEM software control panel or CCU controller
panel
- Tally light indication for
program or preview buss
- PTZ control for PAN and TILT
as set at the ATEM either by a PTZ controller panel or the ATEM hardware
control panels

This is an ATEM CCU/PTZ/tally controller that converts from an ATEM Ethernet
connection to SDI camera return as embedded data.
It works by decoding all the data in the ATEM's CCU ethernet packets (paint,
exposure, gain, shutter, PTZ, tally etc) and embeds the data into any HDSDI
signal that can be distributed to all your cameras.
This has the added advantage in not needing 4K cabling to get return signals
back to the cameras.
As an example, the ATEM2CCU allows the use of the built in 4k down
convert SDI output on an ATEM 4K and feeding it into the ATEM2CCU converter SDI INPUT, and then
connecting the SDI OUTPUT into the camera return feed of all your cameras. That
means your cameras SEND 4K to the
ATEM but RECEIVE 3G as return.
The ATEM2CCU can also be used for when you need a different return feed to the
cameras such as a multiviewer
or a quad split; maybe you need to
send off air or a internet feed back to the cameras. But with the ATEM2CCU you can reinsert all the CCU
data back into the signal; with zero latency!
That means you will be able to retain all your camera CCU controls (as set at the ATEM either by the ATEM
software control panel or CCU controller panel), Tally light indication for
program or preview buss, PTZ control for PAN and TILT (as set at the ATEM either
by a PTZ controller panel or the ATEM hardware control panels) as well as your
own choice of camera return video pictures.
Using the
USB port connected to a computer terminal you can set the Local IP address, the
IP address of which ATEM you wish to connect to as well as being able to select
what CCU/PTZ/TALLY data you wish to use. The Status LED brightness can also be
adjusted. Firmware updates can be applied also using the USB connector.
This unit is also available as POE
(powers from the Ethernet port) when used in conjunction with a suitable
router.

Dimensions - 162mm x 74mm x 60mm
The ATEM
Toolkit is a palm sized controller that can connect to the ATEM using just a
single ethernet cable. It was initially designed to extend the ATEM Macro
capability to a stand alone unit, but in being able
to create macro’s, it needed to have access to all the ATEM controls.
It is ideally suited to sit along side an existing ATEM control surface or
software control panel, but with the addition of the expansions available, it can also be used as the main controller.
Its main GUI is based on a 3.5” touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 320. A
larger 7” version will be available at the end of 2018 that has a resolution of
800 x 480 (more details to follow).
With 4 fully programable control buttons they can be
used as source selections, AUTO, CUT or any other control available. The
transition can also be manually controlled using the built in HARDWARE slide
fader (T-Bar).
It also has the ability to provide program and preview tallies,
as well as expanding the available control to another 23 buttons using the 25
pin expansion connector. There will also be available optional expansion boxes
to suit various requirements.
A stand alone optional serial controlled control panel will be available to allow 8
program, 8 preview and 8 function keys along with a T-Bar fader. This serial
control will also be compatible with the Datavideo RMC-260 control panel
providing basic Program/Preview row selection with associated T-Bar
functionality.
The serial control will also be
extended to hardware CCU and Audio functions provided by the ATEM.
What makes the Toolkit even more useful is its ability to expand on existing ATEM
functionality with features such as separate key sources for each keyer, timeline control of DVE effects, timeline control of
all 4 boxes of SuperSource, etc.
When making adjustments of various ATEM controls they can be

The Event
Logger is used to generate an Edit Decision List (EDL) from a live production
performed on any ATEM
Production Switcher. An industry standard Edit Decision List (EDL) can be
created from the cuts and dissolves.
This EDL can be used to edit and ‘fine tune’ a multi-camera live cut production
in post-production or used with a
colour-grading application to colour
match each source camera for final release (post CCU).
It is a
small palm sized unit that communicates with the ATEM using an industry
standard RJ45
network cable. You connect to your network switch that also has the ATEM and
controlling devices connected to.
These controlling devices can be the standard ‘ATEM software control panel’,
the ‘ATEM hardware control panel’
and even wireless control panels as used with the iPad or anything that
controls the ATEM over that network.

This is a 4
camera CCU controller. It is based on the KISS principle; Keep It Simple
Stupid!
But it is far from stupid… more simple. It has basic
operational features. One IRIS knob and one PEDESTAL
knob for each camera up to four. There are also push buttons on the knobs to
allow camera preview control.
It controls ALL the functions of the ATEM CCU palette. So if you have a camera
connected to your ATEM
that can be controlled by the CCU palette then this is your operational control
surface. It can even be used
with the ATEM2LENS controllers also featured here.
So apart from controlling the IRIS and PEDESTAL for each camera it can also
control GainDb,
Shutter,
Kelvin, Detail, BARS, FOCUS, ZOOM, APERTURE , CONTRAST , HUE, SATURATION, YRGB,
RGBY gains, RGBY
Gammas, RGBY Blacks and many more functions. It also includes Program and
Preview tallies plus AUX/
Router tallies.
The main control is via a Serial Terminal or using the optional TouchScreen display.
The 4xCCU
Controller can also operate any Blackmagic Videohub, ATEM Aux Buss, SmartScope
Duo 4k and
Multiview 4 as stand alone or in conjunction with the
CCU controls.

The
Optional Touch Screen Display for the 4xCCU Controller allows for a total
independent operation
with no need to connect a terminal screen or any other device to set up or
operate the unit. It allows
a much tighter integration to all its operational parameters as well as giving
a huge boost to user feedback.
As a GUI it gives words to the functions selected and as a touch screen it gives
dynamic control to what
was a simple 8 knob/button controller.
Some of the setup menu items include ATEM source selection, Default monitor
input, Router inputs,
Button mode, Router type, Load/save etc. Some of the operational menu items
include Videohub routing,
ATEM Aux Buss routing, SmartScope Control, Multiview
4 control, advance mode including control GainDb,
Shutter, Kelvin etc and Paint. Some of the system settings menu items include
ATEM/Local/Videohub/
SmartScope IP addresses, IRIS/PED/PAINT knob settings, LED brightness, AutoConnect etc.

The B4 Lens
Controllers for Fujinon and Canon lenses allow full
control of IRIS, FOCUS and ZOOM
from any ATEM Production Switcher. They also provide Program/Preview tallies
that can be
extended into a viewfinder as well as providing 12 volts to power the lens.
All the control commands are extracted from the return video feed from the
ATEM’s output
HD-SDI feed. This can also be looped out to any compatible camera to allow
camera paint
control, talkback, tally etc. That way there are no extra cables required other
than the send and
return cables that are used in a normal operation. It is also compatible with a
Blackmagic Fiber
system.
There are 3
versions of the B4 Lens Controller:
-
Lens
control only
-
Iris
only control
-
Full
control
The Lens control only has no
ATEM interface. It is purely used for local control of the IRIS, FOCUS
and ZOOM using the optional Focus controller and zoom/iris controller. There is
no tally interface
with this model.
The ATEM Iris only control
provides ATEM control of the Iris but not the Zoom and Focus. This is the
Most common used as the Zoom
and Focus is quite often left up to the camera operator. This model
also includes the Program/Preview tallies on the unit only. An optional tally
extender connector is
available.
The ATEM Full controller
provides ATEM control of the Iris , Zoom and Focus. It
has connectors for the
optional Focus controller and Zoom/Iris
controller. This model also includes the Program/Preview
tallies and comes standard with the tally extender connector.

This is the
single deck version.
The Hyperdeck Emulator allows any
Video/audio deck that has a 9 pin RS422 connector (Sony P2 protocol) to connect
to an ATEM’s Ethernet and allow it to be controlled as a Hyperdeck. The BMD’s
ATEM has the ability to have FOUR Hyperdecks
connected to it without using up valuable Ethernet control ports.
The Hyperdeck Emulator has a network and
power/setup at one end and a 9 pin deck connector at the other end. A status
tri-colored LED is on the top. There are no knobs or buttons for control. All
setup is done via an ethernet connection using the existing network interface.
The USB port is for setting the initial IP address
of the unit but this is basically a 'set and leave' adjustment. All settings
are stored in non-volatile memory. The ATEM uses this IP address to control the
deck. You can also use this IP address to make all other adjustments using a
network terminal program. You can also use the USB port to upload clip lists as
seen HERE.
Using the
USB you can also upload a 'clip list' for up to 40 tape items.
These 'clips' will show on the ATEM Hyperdeck tab
and when you click on any of these clips the deck will cue to the item ready
for play. If you have the ATEM set to 'auto play', it will automatically play
the tape when selected on the program, exactly the same as any Hyperdeck does.
That's why I call it a Hyperdeck emulator! (or
ATEM2DECK)
You can also get the ATEM to put the videotape into
record, either crash record or cue to last recording and assemble/insert record
which also creates another clip item.
A 2 deck with touch screen will follow later.
